Week of November 23, 2008

It's been a very lovely week albeit too hot for November. I want the cooler weather to stay in the worst way.

Spent a good deal of last week loading in the closet. Shocking what I have managed to keep all these years. But as soon as I let something go, I need it for an audition.

I did weed out over 80, yes, eighty items last summer to give to my sister. There is still about another 25 things I could live without.

You may recall my saying I am not a big shopper. The truth is, people give me their clothes. They drop 5 pounds and out the door to the mall. On the way, they drop off theirs.

Now allot of it makes it to charity garage sales but way too much makes it to my closet. So in the coming months I am going to go through it all again, and get rid of more stuff.

One thing is for sure, Tom and I do not need another tee shirt, pair of socks or underpants.

A big bonus with the load in is that I got rid of about 150 wire coat hangars. Turns out the SAG Foundation is have a big garage sale and was desperately seeking hangers. Loved recycling them there.

Still tweaking the closet which should take several more months. Will look for granite, then make curtains and cushion, change out door hardware, may have to move some lighting, hang a full length mirror and thinking about putting in some other light fixtures. I did find a great mirror on Craig's list for $20 which is hanging on the wall over the built-in bureau. It sorta takes the onus off the illuminated make-up mirror on the bureau top.

Had our friend and my coach, Raymond down for dinner last week. He's off to have Thanksgiving in Michigan so I wanted to do a little "thanksgiving" myself in that I can never repay him for all the help he has given me with my auditions.

I've told him many times, death is not an option. The moment he dies my career ends and I'm much too young and too talented for that!

I had two challenging film auditions last week. One is a blind skid row angry flower child type and the other is a loud, not too bright, heart of gold, foul mouthed broad. Already have a callback for one on Tuesday.

Last Friday I went to the opening night of THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED at the Kirk Douglas Theater. The director, Scott Ellis, gave us comps and an invite to the "talk-back" following the performance.

I enjoyed the hilarious, jaded, inside look at our business and what makes people tick. Julie White is a revelation.

Ended up serving as a Eucharistic minister at the 5:30 healing mass on Saturday. Regrettably Tom didn't feel up to attending. But we all know you don't have to go somewhere or be touched by someone to be healed.

Tom is holding his own. On Monday he reduces his meds yet again, this time to 12 mcg. The pain continues to soar so he's sleeping more. The journey continues.

Mocha, our 15 year old chocolate lab mix took a BIG tumble down a flight of stairs. She covered about 20 steps at lightening speed. Miraculously she was not hurt but she was even more reticent to make the ascent that night.

We helped her up and then helped her down in the morning. At 86 pounds it is no longer an option for either one of us to carry her.

She also appears to be losing her sight and hearing on one side. Oh my!

My friends Winnie, Dale and Mary Pat are throwing me a Ladies Tea this Sunday to celebrate my big SIX OH!

It's been exciting to have friends buzzing about the details while keeping me in the dark.

I asked that all the Girls where hats as I want to have a lovely group photo. With any luck I'll get it posted by next Sunday.

Monday I'll be at church to go over our Pastoral Council agenda with my pastor.

Then it's out the door to have lunch with Eva whose family commitments will keep her away from the party.

Wednesday, my actual birthday I am having lunch with old pal Rick, of my college days.

So much has happened and is happening to him that I fully expect to be in listening mode for the entire lunch.

Since Tom just can't make our traditional trek to The Castaways for Thanksgiving Day dinner, I've decided to do the untraditional and have a simple steak and potato thing here.

Winnie and Scott are up for the change, so why not?

We hope to make it to eh LA County Museum over the weekend for their annual Member Appreciation Event.

These usually work well for Tom as we can get in and out in a little over an hour. But if he can't do it, I'll go alone. I've been eager to see the Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913-2008.
